I know all the negative connotations with walkers do those go for bouncers too?
I've read of the dangers of walkers and delayed walking etc with them do bouncers have these kind of negative draw backs?

I believe everything in moderation. My daughter spent a little time in both and walked at 10 months.

The only dangers with walkers are parents who let their kids in them around unblocked staircases or outdoors. They do not delay walking. I think they actually encourage it and help them build strength and balance. My parents used them for my sister and I, and she walked at 10 months and I walked at 9 months. I have two kids. We put them both in walkers at 3-4 months old. By 7 months they were pulling themselves to a stand and walking along the furniture. By 9 months they were walking by themselves. I have friends who did not use walkers, and their kids didn’t walk until between 12-15 months old! So I would say that a bouncer wouldn’t have any negative draw backs, and a walker doesn’t even! As long as you don’t leave the child outside, near stairs, or unattended in a walker, they are excellent to have, and it gives them a sense of freedom and independence at a younger age.

The research I’ve done didn’t mention delayed walking it said the danger was that many babies who have a walker don’t crawl enough. Crawling is an extremely important developmental step and you don’t want to discourage your baby from floor time. However, bouncers I never read anything like that about. As long as the baby isn’t in it all the time I think they are fine.

  3. No Longer Dizzy

The main problem with walkers is that they give the child mobility before it has developed sense to go with it, or any understanding of the word no. Bouncers are OK in this sense. And you won’t get the problem of delayed walking, which affects a small proportion of babies using walkers. But you have to make sure the child doesn’t use the bouncer too often or there is a small chance of damage to the legs, if the child is at the lower end of the range for using it. Also, be careful when taking the child out. Sometimes they don’t realise they can no longer bounce and they try to keep going, and bang their feet hard down on the floor and hurt themselves.

I don’t think bouncers have those negative connotations. Granted, if a child stuck in anything too long it’s not good… but I don’t think walkers are bad activities if used correctly. We weren’t going to get one because I had heard how ‘horrible’ they were, but my son got one as a gift. It ended up being his FAVORITE toy for so long. Yes, you don’t put them in it at the top of the stairs, and you keep an eye on them so they can’t pull things down and get hurt, but if used in moderation and with common sense, it was a lifesaver! He was happy while I cooked in the kitchen, and he just loved being able to get around faster. And he was walking by 10 1/2 months, so it didn’t stunt his walking any. Anywho, that’s my opinion on those… and I like bouncers too, but I always thought those were used on children a bit younger (like 4-7mo) while walkers seemed more appropriate for a 6-10 month old. I’m rambling, sorry… so to answer your question: no, I don’t think bouncers are bad :-)
