Scott Walket did a great job by spreading Jacques Brel’s music throughout the English speaking countries. Brel was a genious in many ways, as a lyrist, composer and performer.

@spikeysmum Scott is still going, Some of his music is hardwork these days ,But can be very rewarding . Try his 90,s L.P. TILT, initially its unlistenable yet you have to keep going back to it, The musical equivalent of olives. Try it one night lights turned down strong drink in hand, you won,t regret it, Good Luck.

  13. TheDiamond2007

@TheDiamond2007 …and you mention 3 French songs covered in the English language – let’s be charitable and include Scott Walker covers of that “French” singer, the Belgian Jacques Brel – for each mentioned, I could list 1,000 classic English songs. The truth is, French language music is nothing more than a odd little curio in a very small corner of the occasional record shop.

@TheDiamond2007 I’ve said it before, anglophones all look alike to me. I can’t distinguish them from one another. It’s just as if there were only one (obese, balding, with bad teeth, bigoted with an overly pronounced taste for money and materialistic stuff, uneducated, speaks at most one language, afraid of everything, eats crap). I think this is an accurate description.

  15. TheDiamond2007

@Rachegotter “Anglophones go around mocking and dismissing French music”. Interesting that you should now speak on behalf of the entire English speaking world. I’ve never heard people mocking and dismissing French music. In fact, I very, very rarely hear people mention French music. Why would that be? I think that’s your real gripe.

  16. Rachegotter

@TheDiamond2007 It leaves us at the point where a francophone song was ripped off by anglophones. Further examples include “somewhere beyond the sea”, “the autumn leaves”, and “my way”. And then the anglophones go around mocking and dismissing French music. Ignorance is a weed ; it dies hard.

  17. TheDiamond2007

@Rachegotter So where does this leave us? You’re completley wrong on the subject of Jacques Brel/Scott Walker and I’m 70% French. This is most unsatisfactory.

  18. Rachegotter

@TheDiamond2007 “The French”. I’m honored that you would declare me as representing my 67 millions fellow citizens. As far as “inferiority” is concerned, English is nothing more than an offspring of French. 70% of your words come frome mine. “Dieu et mon droit”. Et honnis sois-tu si tu mal y penses…

  19. TheDiamond2007

@Rachegotter You’re right. It matters not that you’re completely, and wholly, factually incorrect. There’s deformed and uneducated for you. I’m truly sorry that the French have such a huge inferiority complex when dealing with the English.

  20. Rachegotter

@TheDiamond2007 Matters not. Anglophones are to me a deformed and uneducated groveling mass that spews but crap. As for the Belgians, they’re French when they have talent. It’s a well-known fact which even anglophones don’t ignore. Sur ce, bon vent.

  21. TheDiamond2007

@Rachegotter And on the basis that Scott’s American, presumably your comment should read: “Yet another Belgian song (by Jacques Brel) ripped by the Yanks”, right?

  22. TheDiamond2007

@Rachegotter And Scott Walker’s American, right?

  23. TheDiamond2007

@Rachegotter Do you mean Belgian? Aim to distinguish European countries.

  24. Rachegotter

Yet another French song (by Jacques Brel) ripped by the Brits.

  25. lexarquette

Oh Yeah ,Scott Walker is God.
