Walkers at Tennyson Down
May sees the annual Walking Festival on the Isle of Wight where I live. There are many walks, and they are very varied. Long, short, strenuous, gentle, for scenery, for history - you name it.
Today I did a four-hour walk as a sort of warm-up for Sunday. We went from Freshwater Bay along to Alum Bay and back again over Tennyson Down.
I'll be doing Walk the Wight on Sunday, which raises money for our local hospice. Last year over 5.200 walkers took part. To date there are 4,845 walkers registered for this Sunday, with around 2,000 expected to sign up on the day.
The walk is 26.6 miles long and goes from one end of the Isle of Wight to the other.

Thanks guys. All went well thanks. The only trouble was when I got there I caught sight of the state of my hair! All that wind and wet had taken it’s toll! You could have mentioned it when I got out of the car! I looked like the Wild Woman of Borneo!

Thanks everyone, I was pleased with the way this one came out. It was a very dull day with some rain and not really ideal for photos – which is a shame because the scenery from up there is fantastic on a good day. The crop was a necessity to avoid a half-and-half black and grey photo but I think it works well because the walkers are all spread out.
